    Movement for a balanced life.

Shirley established Infinite Yoga in 2016 to offer a straightforward, common-sense approach to movement. Her teaching is informed by over forty years of personal practice and a commitment to helping others find stability in a busy world.

    Understanding the need for reset.

Having spent years working in the City and navigating a daily commute, Shirley understands how difficult it can be to find time for oneself. She initially sought out yoga as a way to manage the demands of a professional career, and it is this practical need for a “reset” that remains at the heart of Infinite Yoga today. Whether through a 30-minute online session or a weekly community class, her focus is on creating a space where people can simply breathe and move.

Yoga has been part of my life for a long time. I can remember watching Richard Hittleman on TV in the 1970’s – Yoga for Health and trying to copy some of the moves without really understanding much more. To be fair it was a while ago and I wasn’t even 10 years old and I’d been at baby ballet classes since 4 years old too – probably my parents efforts to stop my fidgeting!

It was my Mum also that introduced me to the Gym – Barry Bolton at Boltons and to Sylvia Gibbons who ran Barry’s yoga classes – straight after Circuit Training… those yoga classes were great and needed after a hot training session.

The challenges of working in the City with a daily commute and finding a practice that fitted in meant that I had to change my teacher, Sylvia recommend Lin Bridgeford of Bios Yoga and for me a whole new great branch of dynamic yoga practice – Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (AVY). Yoga continued in step with working in the City and allowed me to take my practice into London and abroad with many brilliant yogis.

Eventually I’d had enough of the City and took some time out. It gave me a chance to think about how I wanted to live my life outside that corporate environment and so I chose Yoga. I completed my foundation teacher training certification with Lin.

I setup Infinite Yoga in 2016 and I’ve continued to do as much advanced training, masterclasses, workshops and practice for functional anatomy, movement, yoga, meditation and relaxation techniques as possible with some amazing teachers and I’m still in touch with Sylvia and Lin when busy lives permit. I am eternally grateful to all my lovely teachers, mentors (and Richard H!) for the brilliant knowledge, care and encouragement they’ve always given. I’m still curious about how we can be the same and yet totally different requiring different things from the same practice and one of my aims is to provide a great space to allow individuals to explore and define their practice in a way that suits them.

The connection between gym, fitness and using yoga techniques came full circle when I met Sarah Ramsden at the Yoga Show. I wasn’t planning this move so did her workshop as I am always curious – in my jeans 🙂 Her focus on technique and using yoga to inspire sportspeople to improve performance, avoid injury and re-balance was fascinating and I joined Sarah’s training programme to qualify additionally in teaching this branch of yoga too.

..and so here we are post all sorts of events and things that life throws our way and yoga has become a lifelong companion for which I am grateful.
